Evolution of The Most Iconic Skyline: Chicago's New Skyscrapers

Jan, 07 2020

Birthplace of the Skyscraper

Not only is Chicago the Windy City, but it is also the Birthplace of the Skyscraper. For well over a century, Chicago has been at the forefront of urban architectural design. The world’s first skyscraper, topping the field at 10 stories high, was the Home Insurance Building erected in Chicago in 1885. And the tallest building in the world at the time of its construction was Chicago’s famous Sears tower. This trend continues today with Chicago’s luxury housing. As of June 2019, Chicago had 116 buildings over 500 feet tall and several more in the works.

Now, Chicago’s iconic skyline is about to receive another makeover. New architecture is embracing the vertical limits of the city while honoring its historic architectural prowess. The best part? Each of these tower dwellings features wow-worthy luxury housing perfect for you to hang your hat. These new projects will redefine the Chicago city skyline of the future. We’ve got the skinny on this year’s top five up-and-coming high-profile skyscrapers.  You might even find Pinnacle Furnished Suites and their luxury corporate housing units available in some of these!

Vista Tower

Opening Spring 2020, the towering 1,198-foot-tall Vista Tower offers 396 luxury condos in the fabulous Lakeshore East. Featuring a mirrored visage and futuristic angles, this new Chicago landmark will be the city’s third-largest building. In addition to its behemoth height, Vista Tower will be known for its striking design from Chicago-based architect Jeanne Gang. It will also be the tallest structure in the world designed by a woman.

One Chicago

Opening in 2022, One Chicago will include a mix of 870 rental units with 421 luxury housing condos. It aims to redefine modern living with boutique office spaces, a Whole Foods Market, a private event space, and an elite health and fitness club. Drenching itself in modernity, it will nestle across from the historic Holy Name Cathedral in River North.

1000 M

Now under construction, 1000 M brings the pinnacle of luxury housing to Michigan Avenue. With gorgeous views of the water, 1000M seeks a refined modern vibe with sleek common spaces and amenities flanking it 421 luxuriously appointed living quarters. Perhaps the star of this Helmut Jahn and Kara Mann-designed tower is the 72nd-floor outer deck offering sweeping views of the city and Lake Michigan.

Opening in January of 2020 and boasting 698 luxury housing rental condos, Wolf Point East is the talk of the town. Towering astride a four-acre riverfront park, Wolf Point East combines modern aesthetics with natural appeal. Cascade

A key piece of the Lakeshore East construction master plan, Cascade tower will open in the summer of 2021 with 503 luxury rental units. It will flank its slightly taller sister tower, Cirrus.
