Are you planning to visit Chicago this June? Already here? This month marks the dawn of summer when Chicago residents ditch the confines of their warm homes and come out to play. The windy city has all the major offerings that are synonymous with top cities in the U.S. This includes world-famous architecture, vibrant shopping centers, and world-class museums, just to name a few. These offerings are spread out throughout Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods. Here are 5 things you can do in a few of Chicago's neighborhoods this June
1. River North
This neighborhood was originally home to the city’s factories and manufacturing plants. As a result, it has a wide variety of historical buildings. Combined with modern high-rises, bistros, boutiques and skyscrapers – the area is a sightseeing marvel. The neighborhood also hosts numerous galleries. Old warehouses were converted into exhibition spaces to promote art. There are new itinerary items to be checked off weekly. If you’re an art lover you’re sure to see anything from innovative glass sculpture, to Asian artwork and even European impressionist paintings.
2. The West Loop
If you’re passionate about food and wine, then you’re absolutely going to love the West Loop neighborhood – specifically the City Winery. This is a unique facility that combines intimate concerts with food and wines. The facility’s bookings feature mostly adult contemporary artists and is geared towards entertaining crowds who enjoy good food and a show. Its glamour and charm also make it one of the best places to interact with friends and meet local residents.
3. The Gold Coast
The Gold Coast neighborhood is home to some of Chicago’s best shopping malls, electronic mega-stores and high-end department stores. If you’re looking for a high-energy shopping experience or simply a glamorous window shopping adventure, this is the
neighborhood to visit. All the popular and trendy fashion lines such as Max Mara, Gucci and Versace can be found here. It’s called the “Gold” coast for a reason. There are also quality shopping stores tailored for different customer budgets and data-styles. Need a break from shopping? There are a plethora of coffee and pastry shops to relax and refuel.
4. The Loop
The Loop is perhaps the most celebrated cultural Broadway neighborhood in Chicago. If you’re a Broadway fan you can visit the Goodman Theater which has been entertaining visitors and locals for more than 90 years! The 1930’s theater is famous for presenting flamboyant plays and musicals that are highly appraised by critics. The sitting space is limited though, especially during the summer months, so be sure to book a ticket to avoid missing out.
5. Streeterville
Do you enjoy Pac Man and Pinball? If so, you’ll be pleased to know the Streeterville neighborhood is known for its vibrant gaming culture that promises to satisfy your 8-bit hobby. The area is home to multiple arcade bars that let you play your favorite games while you enjoy your favorite drink. The arcade bars are established in a retro-setting with a nostalgic atmosphere that makes it pleasant to play video games and make small talk with fellow gamers. Some also serve food such as gumbo and Buffalo Cauliflower.
